VIVE VIRTUAL REALITY CAMP UPDATE

VIVE has arrived! We’re setting up one of the first of the new VIVE Virtual Reality systems! This summer Ithaca Media Arts will be offering Virtual Reality experiences to all full-day Tech and Media campers, with (among other things) an immersive 3D paint program in which campers can first paint objects around themselves, and then walk in and around their virtual reality creations! We intend to offer this experience as a bonus to our full-day campers, and will also offer it to part-day campers whenever possible. For those with a strong interest in VR, we’re also offering intensive VR Teen Week camps where the focus is entirely on VR for a week.

The new VIVE system from HTC, just released this spring, is widely considered the next step in VR, going beyond the well-known Oculus Rift system with a more immersive, walk around and interact experience. Both systems are also much more advanced than the popular cardboard viewers for smartphones, in that you can walk around the space you’re viewing.
